Coldcuts and A1 Sauce.

At the height of hip-hop's "golden age", Long Island boys Eric B. and Rakim were shaking things up. Taking influence from Run D.M.C, adding James Brown samples, and infusing it with some Eric B. scratching lead to hip-hop's initial love for samples within songs. During their first album, "Paid In Full", Rakim said, " I'd go into the studio, put the beat down, write the song in like an hour, and go into the booth and read it from the paper...". It's pretty amazing what these two did while they were writing songs together. Just check out any song from "Paid In Full" or "Follow The Leader" and you'll instantly see why they were so innovative.

Here's the Coldcut remix of the title track from "Paid In Full". Enjoy.
