Blast Off. 3.30.11

Hey oh,

I realized that I've been posting mostly live performances for a bit so I thought I'd revert back to some awesome music videos for a change.

Atlas Sound is a solo venture by Bradford Cox, the well known lead singer from the psycho-ambient band Deerhunter. What I find super interesting about this guy is he believes in "stream-of-consciousness" writing. That is to say, he sits down and presses record and out comes the music. He doesn't write any lyrics beforehand. Nor any chords or melodies for that matter. By the end of the process if he doesn't like what he's made, he presses delete and starts over.

This whole process came about when he was ten and had a tape player (brand name Atlas Sound) with two tape decks. He would play around with looping and overlapping and would record whatever came out. This eventually led to many of his early songs as an aspiring artist with Deerhunter.

Bradford refers to his second Atlas Sound album, Logos, as "not about me" and "the view is a lot more panoramic and less close-up. I became bored with introspection". He is referring to his first album as Atlas Sound which is mostly autobiographical with its lyrics.

He's been picked to open up at the "All Tomorrow's Parties" fest by Animal Collective, who will be overseeing the whole shindig. The song below is from Logos and it's called "Walkabout" ft. Noah Lennox aka Panda Bear. The video is made up of old stock footage of boys and their astronaut dreams. Enjoy.
